St. Mary's JNS Parents' Association Committee

24th Aug 2022

In early September 2021 we established a school parents association committee. In advance of establishing the committee, parents interested in becoming involved completed a training course held by the National Parents Council in June last year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those parents who volunteered their time and support to the committee and who attended the monthly committee meeting. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. We will be looking for more parents to become involved next academic year.

We had a number of guest speakers attend our parent association committee meetings this year. Many thanks to those who gave their time inlcuding North Clondalkin library staff, Sarah Thornberry from Blue Skies, Jacqueline Sheehy from South Dublin County Partnership in Rowlagh Community Centre and Roisin Ellis, Healthy Food Made Easy Co-ordinator, South Dublin County Partnership.

This year we held three events; Creative Pumpkin Event, Santa Hat Event and Easter Colouring Competition.

The Pumpkin Event was held in October. Well done to the whole school community for your creative efforts and enthusiasm on the day of this event. It was a wonderful success and great fun for all. All donations made were put towards purchasing sensory and interactive resources for the Junior Infant corridor by ‘Halls of Fun.’ The children have had great dun with these interactive resources on the corridor.

The Santa Hat Event was held in December. Thank you to all who participated. There were very creative Santa hats made and worn on the day. The children enjoyed the Santa hat parade in the yard where they could show off their creative work and dance to some festive tunes. A fantastic €315.95 was donated on the day which will be put towards the purchasing of further interactive resources for the yard and corridor. Many thanks to all.

The Easter event involved a colouring competition for our students. All entries were displayed in the school hall. Well done to all of those who won spot prizes. Each class visited the hall to see the display of entries and to enjoy dancing and some sweet treats.

Thanks to the Parents Association Committee who served tea, coffee and refreshments on the day of the grand opening of the sensory garden and outdoor classroom. The committee truly welcomed all of the guests who attended the opening on the day.
